Missing Girl’s Body Found In River

From Staff And Wire Reports

The body of a missing toddler was found Wednesday in the Skykomish River, near where her footprints disappeared into the water.

A diver recovered the body of Kailee Alberts from the swift-flowing river, said Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.

“Divers had to grope through sand and silt along the river’s bottom looking for her,” Jorgensen said, describing the rapids and boulders that created channels of white water 20 feet deep in the fast-flowing river.

The toddler of Surrey, British Columbia, was reported missing Saturday evening after she wandered away from a family reunion south of Monroe. Her footprints and a wagon were found near the water’s edge.

Kailee would have turned 2 years old on Friday.

There was no suspicion of foul play, Jorgensen said.
