Students Receive Mention In Aaa Poster Program

Two Spokane students received honorable mention awards in the American Automobile Association’s 51st annual, nationwide School Traffic Safety Poster Program.

The students and their poster titles are:

Kelly Jo Pilkington, junior at Shadle Park, “Heads Up, Helmets On.”

Adrianne Lascuola, eighth grade at St. Aloysius, “Bad Weather Driving” poster.

Tera Jones, Spokane, will be a resident assistant for 1995-96 at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Ill.

Jane Prendergast and Ken Gawlowski recently received certified purchasing manager certifications. Prendergast is senior purchasing agent for Kaiser Aluminum-Trentwood. Gawlowski is procurement manager at Output Technology Corp.

Barbara Park, Veradale, was installed as treasurer of the state Philanthropic and Educational Organization (PEO) at its annual convention in Wenatchee.

Bruce Schmitt, Colbert, Gregory Preuss, Mead, and Robert Fisher, Spokane, recently attended a national sales and education conference sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans in Beaver Creek, Colo. They qualified to attend the conference based on outstanding sales and service to AAL members last year.

John Konzal, Colbert, a member of Carpenters Union Local 98, placed first at the Washington State Apprenticeship Contest in Seattle. He will participate in the international contest in Anaheim, Calif., in the fall.

Dottie Szendre and Lanee Alaniz, teachers with the High School Equivalency Program at Washington State University, Pullman, won national recognition when they were named as Sci-Mat Fellows for Independent Study in the Humanities by the Council for Basic Education. As a team, they will receive $2,300 each and $300 to purchase books and materials. Their theme is “The Sun: Science & Stories.” The fellows program is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Anjan Bose, Pullman, received a Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering from Iowa State University’s College of Engineering. He is director of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Washington State University, where he holds the endowed distinguished professorship in power engineering.

Tammy Strom, marketing support specialist at Washington Trust Bank, was named Volunteer of the Year by the Washington State American Institute of Banking. Strom has been involved with the institute for eight years and is now the Spokane education center manager. She recently represented the state chapter at the national conference in San Diego.

Doug Day was named Employee of the Month for June for Northland Peterbilt Inc., where he is a member of the parts team.

Barbi Reisenauer, parts manager for Northland Peterbilt Inc., received the Standards of Excellence award from Peterbilt Motors at its parts and service managers meeting in Nashville, Tenn.
