Burrell, Coe Take Stand
World record-holders Leroy Burrell and Sebastian Coe called for lifetime suspensions in track for using drugs - just a day after two athletes were dropped from the upcoming World Championships for flunking drug tests.
The IAAF, track’s world governing body, will vote on a proposal to cut the present ban for first-time offenders from four years to two.
“For something that important, the IAAF has to make a very important stand,” Burrell said in a radio interview.
The IAAF said Wednesday in Goteborg, Sweden, that two leading sprinters, Daniel Effiong of Nigeria and Donovan Powell of Jamaica, were suspended pending positive doping tests.
