Peter Graf Denied Bail

The father of Steffi Graf was denied bail and held in a prison hospital after being arrested for investigation of tax evasion in a probe that also targets the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player.

Steffi Graf “is still under investigation, but the situation for her is unlike that of her father,” Mannheim prosecutor Peter Wechsung said.

Wechsung said authorities feared Peter Graf, who has managed his daughter’s career for 13 years, might try to flee the country or eliminate evidence. Reports in Germany said Graf had underpaid his taxes by $7.2 million over a four-year period. His income during that time was an estimated $25.2 million.
