Lesley White Wallace

Service for Lesley W. “Howdy” White, 58, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the family home, 42 E St., Burke Road, Wallace. Shoshone Funeral Service, Wallace, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White, who was born in Corning, Ark., died Thursday at home.

He moved to the area in 1957 and worked at various mines, including the Coeur Mine for 16 years.

Mr. White was a member of the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Posse and the Wardner Industrial Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, haying and gardening. He also raised pack horses for hunting expeditions.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Mike White of Rathdrum, Idaho, Bill White of Mullan, Idaho, and Steve White of Coeur d’Alene; three stepsons, Scott Griffin of Hayden Lake, Idaho, David Griffin of Boise and Kelly Griffin of Wallace; his mother, Ophelia White of Oregon; three brothers, C.R. White and Teddy White, both of Oregon, and Ben White of Iowa; six sisters, Daisy Sweeter, Katherine Shuntliff, Rose Miller, Dorothy Petty, Beulah Roberts and Retha Reese, all of Oregon; three grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.

Zenaida Braun Sagle, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Zenaida Habana Braun, 50, was held Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sandpoint. Coffelt’s Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Braun, who was born in Manila, Philippines, died Tuesday at home.

She grew up in Manila, where she worked for the GTE Yellow Pages as a sales manager for 16 years. After her retirement, she moved to the United States.

She married Richard Braun in Orofino, Idaho, in 1982, and they moved to Garfield Bay near Sagle.

Mrs. Braun loved her dogs, fishing, playing piano and dancing. She also enjoyed her friends and needlework. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, at home; three sons, Scott Braun of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Eric Braun of Coeur d’Alene and Ethan Braun of Spokane; two daughters, Letana Lickfold of Bayview, Idaho, and Rene Eifler of Hayden Lake; her mother, Corazon Habana of Manila; three brothers, Manny and Freddie Habana, both of California and Carlos Habana of Manila; 10 grandchildren and many cousins.

Grace Smith Spokane

Vigil service was Friday for Grace M.J. Smith, 71. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, who was born in Mount Morris, N.Y., died Tuesday.

A Spokane resident for 14 years, she was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Her husband, John Smith, died in 1990.

She is survived by one son, John Smith of Arvada, Colo.; one daughter Victoria Jo Walker of Greenacres; four brothers, Angelo Nasca of Akron, Ohio, Charles Nasca of Mount Morris, Thomas Nasca of Perrysville, N.Y., and Philip Nasca of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mary Broderhausen of Spokane; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Diane Vollar Spokane

Memorial service for Diane M. Vollar will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Family placement of the urn at Fairmount Memorial Park will precede the memorial service. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vollar, who was born in Seattle, died Wednesday.

She had been a Spokane resident for 40 years.

She graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute, was a member of the Quilting Club, and a was foster parent for 25 years.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and belonged to the church ladies circle.

Mrs. Vollar is survived by two daughters, Julie Wing and Lori Green, and two sons, Richard Vollar and Scott Vollar, all of Spokane; two sisters, Sally Vonoy and Karol Brandal, both of Seattle; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contribution may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Lucille Thom Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Lucille C. Thom, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville. Burial will follow at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

A lifelong resident of Ritzville, Mrs. Thom died Wednesday at Silver Lake, Wash., while visiting family and friends.

She graduated from Ritzville High School in 1928.

She worked in Ritzville at a dry cleaner, grocery store and clothing store and was a substitute bus driver. She was also a Sunday school teacher.

She retired in 1975.

She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, and the Ho N’ Gro Garden Club.

Her husband, Edward Thom, died in 1995.

She is survived by one daughter, Edlu Thom of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Verlyn Geriene of Yakima; one brother, Victor Wellsandt of Ritzville; one sister, Irene Rehm of Omak, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Marguerite Keenan Spokane

Vigil service for Marguerite C. Keenan, 104, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Keenan, who was born in Helena, died Wednesday.

She had been a Spokane resident for 81 years.

She was a member of both St. Peter’s Parish and Sacred Heart Parish.

She had been a member of Junior League of Spokane, a member of the Morning Star Boys Ranch Auxiliary, the St. Monica’s Guild, the Great Gonzaga Guild and Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Mrs. Keenan was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert.

She is survived by a son, Hugh Keenan of Walla Walla; two daughters, Louise Porter of Coeur d’Alene and Ellen Larkin of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Helen Eklow Spokane

Service for Helen C. Eklow, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Entombment will be at 3 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Eklow, who was a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

She was a member of the Manito Golf and Country Club.

Her husband, Theodore Eklow, died in 1987.

She is survived by one niece and three nephews .

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

William Wentroble Spokane

Private graveside memorial service for William E. Wentroble, 71, will be today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral home is in charge of cremation services.

Mr. Wentroble, who was born in Pennsylvania, died Monday. He had lived in Spokane for more than 15 years.

He retired from the Alaska Railroad, and was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, the National Rifle Association and the Alaska Railroadmen.

His wife, Maxine, died in 1994.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Ford of Arizona and Dennis Wentroble; one daughter, Kathy Shelland; three brothers, George, Buddy and Junior Wentroble; two sisters, Kathleen and Grace; and six grandchildren.

John Kresse Spokane

Memorial service for John C. Kresse, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kresse, who was born in Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday.

He has been a Spokane resident for more than 18 years and worked for Metropolitan Life for 40 years before retiring in 1981.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and had been a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Genevieve; two sons, Douglas Kresse of Tiffin, Ohio, and Jeffrey Kresse of Seattle; a brother, Willard Kresse of California; and two granddaughters.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Maxine Reopelle Mead

Graveside service for Maxine E. Reopelle, 72, is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mrs. Reopelle, who was born in Wilbur, Wash., died Wednesday.

She had lived in Mead for 40 years and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul Reopelle; one daughter, Carolyn Cline of Deer Park; one brother, Raymond Gray of Spokane; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Irene Gilliam Cheney

Private family graveside service for Irene Gilliam, 76, is planned at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Ritzville, Wash., Mrs. Gilliam died Wednesday at Cheney Care Center.

A lifetime area resident, she graduated from Sprague High School.

She worked as a beauty operator and in retail sales.

Her husband, Frank Gilliam, died in 1944.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Slingsby, Wenatchee; and one brother, Orval Telecky, Wenatchee.

Leo Lantis Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Leo Eugene Lantis, 64, is planned for 4 p.m. today at the Ritzville Branch Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lantis, who was born in Hollister, Calif., died Thursday.

He had been a resident of Ritzville since 1983.

He served in the Navy and worked in construction.

Mr. Lantis was a member of the Ritzville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his son, David Lantis of Los Banos, Calif.; his daughter, Debbie Siler of Hollister, Calif.; his mother, Lola Acosta of Ritzville; and his brother, Larry Lantis of Ritzville.

Randy Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Randy R. Johnson, 36, is set for 11 a.m. today at the Maranatha Bible Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday. The cause of death is still uncertain.

He had worked as a fiberglass and electrical technician for Bayliner, Sun Runner and Melcher for 10 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Ann Johnson of Spokane; his parents, Robert and Leone Johnson of Spokane; and one brother, Rick Johnson of Post Falls.

Irene Ruby Hendricks Stanfield, Ore.

No service will be held for Irene Ruby Hendricks, 65, at her request. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hendricks, who was born in Fargo, N.D., died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane from 1955 until 1981.

In Spokane, she was a Cub Scout den mother and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

She and her husband moved to Stanfield in 1981.

She is survived by her husband, Allen Hendricks of Stanfield; two sons, Jim Hendricks of Pasco and David Hendricks of Spokane; one daughter, Renee Hendricks of Spokane; three brothers, Larry Vance and Bud Vance, both of Spokane, and Keith Vance of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Barbara Coates of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
