Prairie Advances In Legion Play

The Prairie Cardinals of Post Falls pounded out 19 hits while blasting the Pocatello Rebels 19-7 in the opening round of the Idaho Class AA state American Legion baseball tournament at Lewiston.

Led by Ryan Ries, who belted two three-run homers, all nine Prairie starters hit safely.

Prairie (30-26) will meet Trail, British Columbia, today at 4 p.m. Trail beat Treasure Valley 23-16.

Golf

Sean Clements, a Washington State University golfer from Colbert, finished eighth in the 69th Washington State Men’s Amateur tournament at Yakima.

Clements finished with a 72 for a 72-hole total of 286. Winner Ken Bensel shot 280.

Spokane players Darren Slackman and Jared Jeffries finished at 290 and 293 respectively.
