Hall Inducts Standouts
After only two decades in the saddle, jockey Jerry Bailey rode into thoroughbred racing’s Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and for a change it was his voice that cracked not his whip.
“I feel like I’m in the No. 1 spot at the Kentucky Derby watching 19 other horses load behind me,” Bailey said, describing his nerves to the crowd in a voice breaking with emotion.
Bailey, California trainer Bobby Frankel and three champion horses from yesteryear - Foolish Pleasure, La Prevoyante and Crusader - were inducted on the lawn of the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame.
