Husker Faces Hearing

Compiled From Wire Services

On the same day that Nebraska opens the defense of its college football title, receiver Riley Washington faces a preliminary court hearing on an attempted murder charge.

Washington was not in court when Lancaster County Judge James Foster scheduled the hearing for Aug. 31, the day Nebraska starts its season against Oklahoma State at Stillwater, Okla.

Washington, a 22-year-old junior receiver from Chula Vista, Calif., is charged with shooting 22-year-old Jermaine Cole outside a local convenience store last week.
