Teen Accuses Packwood Recent Complainant 17 At Time Of Alleged Kiss

Associated Press

An overlooked sexual misconduct complaint that derailed Senate Ethics Committee plans to wrap up its case against Sen. Bob Packwood this week involves a 17-year-old girl, The Oregonian reported.

The newspaper said in its Tuesday editions that Packwood allegedly grabbed and kissed the teenager in 1983, after she had worked the previous two summers as an intern for the Oregon Republican.

Committee members were stunned last week when their staff reported that two complaints filed against Packwood had not been investigated.

One of the complaints, brought by a woman who alleges Packwood grabbed and kissed her during a 1971 camping trip, was filed in late June. The complaint from the former intern was filed several weeks later.

It was the first formal complaint to the Ethics Committee involving a minor.

During a drive Packwood reportedly told her that she was attractive and that he considered her a woman in spite of her age, comments that made her nervous.

During her senior year she asked the senator for a letter of recommendation to use for college applications. He reportedly insisted on delivering it himself.

He arranged to come to her house when no one else was home. She told the Post that after she read his letter, he tried to hug her. When she freed herself and showed him to the door, he “laid a juicy kiss on my lips. I could feel the tongue coming,” she said.
