Theft Suspect Arrested Naked

From Staff Reports

A man who tried to steal a taxicab and a police car stripped himself naked before being arrested, police said.

Lorenzo D. Brown, 22, was arrested by police Sunday on two counts of second-degree robbery and a count of first-degree theft.

A cab driver picked up Brown and two women at Sacred Heart Medical Center. The man grabbed the cab driver’s arm and ordered him to stop.

The driver pulled into the center of the intersection at Seventh and McClellan and stopped, hoping to attract someone’s attention. He said the two women were crying and telling their companion to stop.

The cab driver contacted his dispatcher for help, then got out of the car and took his keys.

In the moments before police arrived, the man took off his clothes and began confronting the driver at Sixth and Browne. Police then subdued the suspect who tried to get into a patrol car.

They took the suspect to Sacred Heart’s emergency room, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the knee that he’d suffered Saturday.

Brown was then booked into the Spokane County Jail, where he remained Monday on $50,000 bond, a jail official said.
