Colfax Man First Runner-Up In Auctioneer Competition

C.D. “Butch” Booker, Colfax, Wash., was selected first runner-up in the men’s division of the International Auctioneer Championship competition sponsored by the National Auctioneers Association during its convention in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Contestants were judged on speed, clarity, interviews and bidcalling abilities during the final round of the 12-hour event.

Booker works with his family’s auction business, Booker Auction Co., and is a well-known purebred livestock auctioneer.

William Wiley, Richland, senior vice president for science and technology policy for Battelle Memorial Institute, has been elected to the national board of the Smithsonian Institute. He was nominated by Allison Cowles, a Smithsonian national board member.

The board, composed of volunteers from across the nation, is an advisory body to the Smithsonian’s secretary, the institution’s chief executive officer.

John Wills, Spokane, was presented with the Outstanding Service Award by the American Association of Community Theatre during a national play festival in Texas. He was recognized for his “significant and valuable service to community theater.”

Wills has been a trustee and financial adviser of the national group’s endowment fund board and is a founding member of the recently incorporated Spokane Civic Theatre Endowment Fund Board.

Only 16 people nationwide have received the Outstanding Service Award since its establishment in 1978. They include Betty Tomlinson, former Civic Theatre executive director, in 1983.

Amy Jo Eye, daughter of Bill and Mary Eye, Spokane, was a finalist in the 1995 Pre-Teen Washington Scholarship and Recognition Program in Pasco. The event is byinvitationonly for girls between 7 and 12 years old.

Eugene Mancheni has been elected president of the AmericanItalian’s Grand Lodge of the Northwest. He is a member of the Spokane’s American Italian Club Lodge 2172, Order of the Sons of Italy in America.

It’s the first time a Spokane lodge member has been elected president.

Ray Martire, Spokane, was reelected as the third grand lodge vice president.

Chris Picicci, a graduate of Mead High School, was the winner of the lodge’s Harold Jackson/Claryce Grosso scholarship.

Spokane delegates attending the convention in Lynwood were: Wayne Rohme, Angelo Pizzillo, Henry Garofano, Pat Cozza, Ray Diluzzio, Frank Costanza, Charley Vingo, Gino Clarizio and Lee Minnick.

Erlene Clifton, Veradale, was mentioned in a Sisters Syndicated column for her contribution in a bargain shoppers contest. She told of finding a complete mother-ofthe-groom outfit for $4.
