Inland Northwest Students Recognized For Leadership

Several Inland Northwest students attending Washington State University were recognized by the school for their leadership excellence.

Those selected for the first President’s Student Leadership and Service Awards include:

Michael Morris, Colville, Wash.; Brooke Bailie, Connell, Wash.; Kara Perkins, Kennewick; William Nicholson II, Moses Lake; Brock Salzman, Nine Mile Falls; Chad Nordberg, Othello, Wash.; and Nicole Wilson, Pomeroy, Wash.

Christine Rayburn, Miles Barger, Jeff Boyd, Susan Bradish, Morgan Criswell, Melinda Cumming, Michelle Eddy, Raymond Herrera, Matthew Meyer, Kerry Miller, Aaron Tag, Leah Tag, Teresa Tsushima and Roxanne Watson, all of Pullman.

Mark Schuster, Richland; Charles Beauchamp III, David Haldi, Jessica Hardung, April Miller, Shawn Mitchell, Scott Reisnouer, and Hank Wirtz, all of Spokane; Tricia Sieveke, Tekoa, Wash.; Thomas Waldron, Walla Walla; and Norma Martinez, Warden, Wash..

The following students have been named National Merit Scholarship winners:

Jeffrey Ridlington, graduate of Mead High School, Whitman College Merit Scholarship.

Katheryn Fanning, Pasco High School Graduate, Gonzaga University Merit Scholarship.

John Cameron, Pullman High School graduate, University of Washington Merit Scholarship.

Richard Weeks, Ferris High School, Gonzaga University Merit Scholarship.

Diane Nebel was chosen to speak at the recent National Environmental Health Association Conference in Denver, Colo. Her topic was “Silkwood II: The Kaiser Experience.”

An employee of the Spokane County Health District, Nebel discussed the environmental health investigation of illness associated with a cleanup at Kaiser.

Cheryl Doetch, daughter of Richard and Beverly Waite, Spokane, was recognized as “One of the 10 Outstanding Senior Women in 1994-95 for the University of Nevada, Reno.” She was also selected as Parent Volunteer of the Year by the Little Flower School Parents Club. Doetch attended Gonzaga University prior to moving to Reno.

The Spokane Public Relations Council awarded eight-week internships and $800 scholarships to three Spokane residents:

Madeline Turnock, senior at Gonzaga University, interning with Habitat for Humanity.

Anthony Robinson, recent graduate of University of Idaho, interning with United Way of Spokane County.

Carson Strege, senior at Evergeen State College, Olympia, and interning in the Office of the Mayor.

Dianne Welsh Bleck, associate professor of business management at Eastern Washington University, has been named editor of the first journal dedicated to the topic of franchising. The journal, “Franchising Research: An International Journal,” will be international in scope with an advisory board and an academic editorial board.
