Schools Gearing Up For Another Year

With the first day of classes looming at the end of the month in one Spokane Valley school district and just a turn of the calendar away for the other three, area districts are opening their doors for back-to-school activities.

The Freeman School District kicks things off Tuesday with early registration at both of the district’s schools. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The district will hold a welcome barbecue on Aug. 22 at the high school for all students new to the district. It begins at 5:30 p.m.

Classes in the Freeman schools start on Aug. 29.

Schools in the Central Valley School District open their doors to administrators and teachers Aug. 22.

Both of the district’s high schools are offering orientations for new students.

Central Valley High School is sponsoring Bear Camp for incoming sophomores on Aug. 30. Bear Camp, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon, provides the students with an opportunity to meet with older students to talk about their responsibilities as high school students.

The sophomores will also get their locker assignments, class T-shirts and a tour of the school.

University High School will hold its orientation on Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will offer incoming students an introduction to and tour of the high school.

Counselors will be on hand at U-Hi beginning Aug. 28 to handle the school’s new student registration. They will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Classes begin at all schools in the Central Valley district on Sept. 6.

In the East Valley School District, school offices open on Aug. 21.

East Valley High School will be offering sports physicals on Thursday for a $10 cash-only fee. Girls will be examined between 8 and 10 a.m. and boys will be seen from 10 a.m. to noon.

New-student registration at East Valley High will be Aug. 21 and Aug. 22. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. both days.

Returning-student registration is Aug. 23. Seniors register between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., juniors from 10 a.m. to noon and sophomores from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. School pictures will also be taken at that time.

Classes in all East Valley schools start Sept. 6.

Administrators and teachers in the West Valley School District will be back in their buildings on Aug. 22.

West Valley High School is offering new-student registration by appointment only on Aug. 24, Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Administrators at the high school are also planning an orientation for incoming freshmen and other new students on Sept. 5. Time, place and activities for this year’s orientation have yet to be announced. Past activities have included a barbecue, ice cream social and tour of the school.

Registration at Spokane Valley High School is Aug. 28-31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Classes at West Valley schools start Sept. 6.
