A Good Excuse To Play A Round Of Golf

Lori Olson

Charitable organizations that traditionally hold benefit dinners and auctions in the fall and winter months are increasingly leaning toward summertime golf tournaments to supplement the funding to carry on their programs. The success of these events can be attributed in part to the increasing popularity of the sport, a fact not missed by savvy organizers.

Fore for Ogden Hall

The Southwest Airlines/98 KISS-FM golf classic to benefit Ogden Hall will be next Sunday at the Fairways Golf Course. The format is four-person, best ball. The $45 entry fee includes a barbecue and trophy presentation following the tournament. A hole-in-one prize worth $10,000 and prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin are also available.

Last year’s event raised more than $8,000 for Ogden Hall, a shelter for women and children. Contact Mark Holman at 459-9800 for additional details and to register.

Scholarship scramble

The fifth annual golf scramble to benefit the Miss Spokane Scholarship Program will also be next Sunday at Esmeralda Golf Course. It’s a four-player scramble format with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. The $35 entry fee includes greens fees, a barbecue dinner and door prizes. Awards will be given for low gross and low net scores as well as closest to the pin and longest drives for men and women. The event is limited to 120 players. Call Lee Schuster at 535-8627 for more information and entry forms.
