Rubin Breaks Jinx Against Sanchez Vicario

Compiled From Wire Services

Chanda Rubin reversed years of futility against Arantxa Sanchez Vicario with a 6-3, 6-1 victory Saturday to advance to the final of the Acura Classic.

Rubin, ranked 22nd in the world, had never taken a set from the second-ranked Spaniard in five previous career meetings, including a quarterfinal loss in the French Open in May.

Today, Rubin will play No. 2 seed Conchita Martinez of Spain, who defeated Yayuk Basuki of Indonesia at Manhattan (Calif.) Country Club.

Martinez won 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

Andre Agassi adapted his ensemble to the heat, then pushed Thomas Enqvist to a quick meltdown to reach the final of the ATP Championship at Mason, Ohio. Agassi made Enqvist run all over the court and ultimately run out of gas in 95-degree heat Saturday for a 6-4, 6-2 win. Agassi has reached the finals of his eight hardcourt tournaments this year. Agassi will face two-time ATP champion Michael Chang in the title match today. Chang beat Michael Stich 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
