Four In Plane Saved After Crash Into Bay

From Staff And Wire Reports

A small plane crashed into Elliott Bay about 150 feet from shore, dumping four people into the cold waters of Puget Sound.

The Cessna 177 sank just off the western tip of Discovery Park in the Magnolia area at about 9 p.m. Saturday, said Woody Cummings, Federal Aviation Administration duty officer.

Two men and two women were rescued by two Metro workers, who jumped in a boat and plucked the group from the water.

They were taken to Harborview Medical Center where they were treated for hypothermia and released, a nursing supervisor said.
