Officials Accused In Peasant Killings
The National Human Rights Commission on Monday accused Guerrero state officials of hiding, altering and manufacturing evidence after a June 28 massacre of 17 peasants by police.
It recommended that a long list of high state officials be fired and that some be investigated for possible prosecution for negligence, participation in the massacre and obstructing justice.
It also recommended that a special prosecutor from outside the southern state be appointed.
The government-backed commission makes recommendations but has no power of enforcement.
