Indians Follow Mark Quinn’s Lead Once Again, Defeat S. Oregon 3-0 For 8th Win In 9 Games

Mark Quinn’s torrid hitting has coincided with the Spokane Indians’ best streak of the Northwest League baseball season.

Quinn had a first-inning, run-scoring triple Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 11 games as Spokane beat Southern Oregon 3-0.

Spokane (27-32), which registered its third shutout of the season, has won eight of its last nine games, including three of four during this series.

The teams complete their season series tonight. The A’s (25-33) hold a 5-4 lead. Allen Sanders (2-4, 5.20 ERA) is scheduled to start for Spokane against Kevin Mlodik (0-2, 4.78).

Quinn, who is 18 for 43 (.419) during his streak, tripled into the right-field corner after Brett Schafer reached on an infield error. The Indians had no other hits through four innings off starter and loser Todd Abbott (2-3).

Modesto Villarreal (6-2) started and won for Spokane, allowing three hits and no runs in six innings. Villarreal hasn’t allowed a run in his last 11 innings. Justin Adam relieved, and Brent Kaysner pitched the final two outs in the ninth for his fourth save.

Spokane homered for its other runs. Mark Melito barely cleared the wall in left in the fifth and Tony Miranda blasted a shot to left in the sixth. Melito has three homers, but two in two days.

Spokane’s Patrick Hallmark had his seven-game hitting streak ended.

Of the Indians’ 17 remaining games, 10 are at home. Spokane begins a season-long, eight-game homestand Friday… . The Indians have completed play against Everett (with a 7-5 record), Portland (6-4) and Boise (3-7).
