Rose’s Return To Baseball A Minor Deal

Associated Press

Pete Rose will return to baseball next week when he throws out the first pitch at he Richmond Roosters’ final game of the season.

Rose, banned from baseball in 1989 for gambling, will also sign autographs at Richmond’s Aug. 26 game against Zanesville in the Class A Frontier League. Scott Brumfiel, Richmond’s assistant general manager, said Rose’s appearance would not violate his banishment from the game.

“We are completely independent,” Brumfiel said. “We don’t have any connection with Major League Baseball.”

Rose could not be reached for comment. Rose was banned from baseball for life in August 1989 for sports betting. He later served a prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of filing false incomes taxes.
