Pre-Screening Of Gay Rights Series Planned

From Staff Reports

A pre-screening of a PBS series on gay rights issues is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Fort Sherman Chapel.

‘The Question of Equality’ is a four-part series addressing the history of the gay and lesbian movement and issues facing homosexual people today.

The pre-screening will be of just one installment, “Generation Q,” which focuses on the experiences of gay and lesbian teenagers in Los Angeles, Albuquerque and Boston.

The pre-screening is sponsored by People Like Us, a gay rights organization that formed this year in Coeur d’Alene to organize the gay and lesbian community.

A discussion will follow the screening, and forms will be available to provide feedback to the producers of the series.

Similar pre-screenings are scheduled around the country, but “this is probably the smallest city where it’s being done,” said Gary Barlow, director of People Like Us.

Nationally, the series is scheduled to air in October. Barlow didn’t know if the series would be aired locally.
