Famed Anthropologist Julio Caro Baroja Dies

One of Spain’s foremost anthropologists, Julio Caro Baroja, early died Friday at his home in this northeastern town. He was 80.

Caro Baroja had won many awards, including Spain’s prestigious Prince of Asturias prize for Social Science in 1984, for his extensive studies in anthropology, history and ethnology. In 1985 he received the National Letters Award.

His works include “Los Pueblos de Espana” (The Peoples of Spain), published in 1946, and “Los Judios en Espana Moderna y Contemporanea” (Jews In Modern and Contemporary Spain), published in 1963.
