Compiled From Wire Services

Jay Haas took the third-round lead in the International at Castle Rock, Colo., using brilliant iron play to set up six birdie putts of 6 feet or less. Haas birdied his final two holes and scored 13 points for a 54-hole total of 28 under the modified Stableford scoring system.

On a leaderboard jammed with prominent names, Lee Janzen and David Duval were close behind at 25, while Tom Watson and Ernie Els stood at 24. Davis Love III was at 23, with Tom Lehman and Mark Wiebe at 22, and Mike Hulbert at 21.

The field was cut to 24 for today’s final round, and 1989 International winner Greg Norman was the last to make the cut, posting a clinching 2-point birdie at the 17th hole for a total of 15. Pullman’s Kirk Triplett also had 15.

At Woburn, England, Karrie Webb, a 20-year-old Australian who turned pro just 10 months ago, eagled the final hole for a 4-under-par 69 and a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the Women’s British Open. Rathdrum’s Tracy Hanson shot a 75 for a three-day total of 225, putting her 17 shots behind the leader.

John Paul Cain maintained his lead in the Northville Long Island Classic, closing with two birdies for a 3-under-par 69 and a one-stroke advantage over Dave Eichelberger at Jericho, N.Y.
