Kellogg Ponders Additional Job Cuts

From Staff And Wire Reports

Kellogg Co., which already has eliminated hundreds of jobs worldwide, said Tuesday that weakened domestic cereal sales may force it to cut 1,075 jobs at its hometown plant in Battle Creek and in Memphis, Tenn.

The maker of such household name brands as Rice Krispies and Kellogg’s Corn Flakes said a final decision is expected in November after negotiations with the employees’ union over severance and early retirement packages.

Kellogg wants to cut about 800 of the 1,900 jobs at its Battle Creek cereal plant, and about 275 in Memphis, where 600 are employed.

Kellogg cut 475 jobs in the second quarter and is considering closing its San Leandro, Calif., plant.
