Rolling, Rolling, Rolling Big Yellow School Buses Roll Out Of Barn And Onto The Streets For A Kid Near You

(From For the Record, Thursday, August 24, 1995:) The phone number for parents to call with questions about bus routes in Spokane School District 81 is 353-3319. A number printed in Wednesday’s newspaper will work, but is not the best one.

School buses hit Spokane streets for a dry run Tuesday, two weeks before opening day in Spokane School District 81.

Drivers of 119 buses practiced their routes and checked the accuracy of schedules. A second dry run will be held next Tuesday.

Mayflower-Laidlaw, the recently merged company providing bus service to the 8,000 students in the district, has been training 40 new regular and substitute drivers since mid-July.

For the third year, buses will have security cameras about once a week to monitor student behavior and driver performance.

Last year, two middle-school students were caught by a camera in a drug deal. The videotape was turned over to district security officials and the students were disciplined.

Parents with questions about bus stops should call the District 81 transportation office at 353-3680. School starts Sept. 5 in District 81.

For information about bus routes in other school districts, call these phone numbers: Mead 468-3107, Cheney 235-9523, East Valley 926-6371, Central Valley 922-6979 and West Valley 922-5467.
