Area Roundup: Mitchell Slumps

Spokane golfer Chris Mitchell, the first-round leader, tumbled to a 74 Wednesday and fell two strokes off the pace heading into the final round of the Wilson Pacific Northwest PGA Championship at Big Fork, Mont.

Steve Bowen of Vancouver, Wash., and John McComish of Independence, Ore., lead the way with 7-under-par totals of 137. Mitchell, playing out of Sun Dance Golf Club, is at 139.

One other Spokane player, Mark Rohde, remains in contention. Rohde shot a 68 for a total of 141.

Track and field

Eastern Washington University athletic department officials will search for a women’s track and field coach to replace Rosalind Wallace, who resigned to accept a highschool coaching position in Atlanta.

EWU officials apparently had reached an agreement to hire Eastern grad Marie Cronrath, but Cronrath decided to continue her current employment at Colgate.
