Developer Protests Conditions Placed On Subdivision Project

The developer of Highland Estates, a subdivision in the hills north of Trentwood, is appealing several conditions attached to the approval of his project.

The appeal by Harold Lundy of Otis Orchards is one of three Spokane Valley items on the agenda of today’s Spokane County hearing examiner committee meeting. Two requests for zoning changes will also be considered by the committee.

As a condition of the county’s approval of Lundy’s project, formerly known as Monte Del Rey, the developer is required to build sidewalks on both sides of Del Rey Drive, develop a plan for handling traffic flow, and donate money to the county Parks Department.

Lundy is challenging aspects of all three conditions.

Other Valley projects on the agenda:

William Evans is requesting a zone change to suburban residential for 41 acres in the southeast Valley. He also is asking the committee for a planned unit development overlay zone for the same property.

Evans wants to build singe-family houses on the property, which is east of Sullivan Road, between 24th Avenue (extended) and 32nd Avenue.

Liberty Lake Village Ltd. is asking for a rezone of 18.3 acres as urban residential, with a planned urban development overlay zone. The property, bounded by Sprague Avenue to the north, Inlet Drive to the south and Liberty Lake Road to the west, is currently zoned for urban residential and community business development.

Liberty Lake Village, Ltd. wants to subdivide the land into eight lots for single-family houses as part of Liberty Lake Village.
