Gary Hart says the political world has “grown up” since the 1987 scandal that knocked him out of the race for the White House, and he may run for his old Senate seat.
The Colorado Democrat told Denver newspapers Tuesday that friends and supporters have encouraged him to run for the seat held by Republican Hank Brown, who has decided not to seek a second term in 1996.
Hart, 58, served in the Senate from 1975 to 1987. He now is an international trade lawyer in Denver.
He dropped out of the 1987 presidential race amid allegations he had an affair with model Donna Rice.
