The Slice Don’t Worry, I Didn’t Forget

OK, where were we.

Oh, yeah. Questions and answers.

We asked what has to happen in order for WSU to go to the Rose Bowl. And readers’ responses included “A miracle,” “Move to Oregon,” “Start wearing purple,” “Find a way to make sure Pullman has a population over a million and is within 20 miles of the Pacific Ocean,” “Forfeits,” “Wait for hell to freeze over” and “Win more often.”

Well, that’s enough old business for one day. Let’s move on.

One size fits all: “I had returned home from shopping and was trying on a new outfit,” wrote Peggy King. “The doorbell rang. So, with price tags still on, I went to the door. It was the 5-year-old neighbor girl. She saw the price tags and asked if I had gotten new clothes. I said ‘Yes, but I think it’s too big.’ She said ‘Oh, that’s OK - you’ll grow into it.”’

No cigar: Robert M. Brown, Jr. had called a toll-free number and was ordering a catalog when the person on the other end, confirming Brown’s address, said “Is that S-P-O-K-H-A-N?”

Fair is fair: “A while back, our pet of nine years, a dog named Jiminey, died,” wrote Anna Marie Ward. “My 6-year-old son, Mike, took it very hard. Trying to console him, I explained that God wanted to take Jiminey to doggy heaven to be with him so he can take him for walks and throw the ball and brush him and do all the things that Jiminey loved. Between sobs, Mike replied ‘God can get his own dog.”’

Warm-up questions: What happened when you went back to visit the house you grew up in? Where in the Spokane area can you see the most obvious link between wealth and residential speed limits? How did you lose your dentures? (One woman told us about how the dog got hers.)

Today’s Slice question: If you piled up all the Idaho and Montana mud that gets washed off Spokane cars and trucks in one summer, how much soil would you have?
