Man Who Fled Scene Faces More Charges

From Staff And Wire Reports

The 31-year-old man who fled an accident scene this week and abandoned a baby during a subsequent police chase faces additional charges, Washington State Patrol troopers said Thursday.

Hunter Olson, a transient, was arrested Monday for drunken driving and possessing a stolen car.

Troopers said Olson rolled a truck on Interstate 90 west of Spokane near Salnave Road and it caught on fire. The WSP said Olson then ran north into the woods with the 2-week-old boy who also was in the truck.

Troopers tracked Olson to a motel in Cheney, where he saw the officers, dropped the child on the ground and ran away, the WSP said.

Troopers said the child belonged to Olson’s girlfriend, Ursula Hutcherson, 24, of Tacoma, who also was in the truck.

The WSP is asking that prosecutors charge Olson and Hutcherson with second-degree criminal mistreatment of a child, a felony.
