Arkansas Governor Pleads Innocent
Gov. Jim Guy Tucker declared his innocence in federal court here Monday and vowed to fight the 11 felony charges brought against him by Whitewater prosecutors.
He reiterated his frequent assertions that Whitewater Independent Counsel Kenneth W. Starr was pursuing a political agenda in the investigation.
The governor was indicted last week with James McDougal, the former partner of President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton, and McDougal’s former wife, Susan. They face a total of 21 charges of conspiracy and fraud charges stemming from financial transactions involving McDougal’s Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan.
