Muslims See Bias In Activist’s Arrest
Four Muslim groups called for an investigation Monday into the arrest of Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, the 1960s student activist formerly known as H. Rap Brown, in an Atlanta shooting.
The groups say they do not believe Al-Amin, 51, shot anyone. They asserted that police, seeking to prevent spread of the Muslim faith, have targeted him because he is a Muslim imam, or minister.
“There is apparently much more to this incident than has been revealed so far,” said a statement endorsed by the Islamic Society of North America, the American Muslim Council, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Al-Amin is accused of shooting William Miles, 22, on July 26 while he walked near Al-Amin’s grocery store.
