Casey Neal Participates In ‘Northern Edge ‘95’

Army Spec. Casey Neal recently participated in a joint training exercise at Fort Greely, Big Delta, Alaska, dubbed “Northern Edge ‘95.”

The three part, 24-day exercise focused on peace enforcement operations and evacuation of American and foreign citizens. Peace enforcement operations included patrolling a United Nations designated no-fly zone and providing support for humanitarian relief.

Neal, a light-wheeled-vehicle mechanic/recovery, is the son of Earl Neal of Hayden Lake, and Hazel Nicholson of Post Falls. He is a 1990 graduate of Post Falls High School.

Army Pvt. Shem Webler, has entered basic training at Fort Sill, Lawson, Okla. Webler is a 1995 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.

Two Montana high school graduates have been named National Merit Scholarship winners:

Nathan Landt, a graduate of Hellgate High School, Missoula, won the Montana State University-Bozeman Merit Scholarship; and Brent Weeks, a graduate of Whitefish High School, won the University of the South-Sewanee, Tenn., Merit Scholarship.

U.S. Air Force Airman Kevin Inman graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Inman is the son of Richard and Priscilla Inman of Coeur d’Alene.

Jon Knodel, son of Michael Knodel of Post Falls, received practical work in military leadership at the Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

Knodel is a student at Gonzaga University.

The camp, attended by cadets between their third and fourth year of college, includes instruction in communications, management, and survival training. Successful completion, along with a college degree, results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Guard or Reserve.
