Jobs Plus Expands Mission Kootenai County Job Recruiter Adopts New Goals, Objectives

Eric Torbenson Staff writer

Jobs Plus Inc., Kootenai County’s economic recruiting arm, has expanded its role beyond luring California businesses here.

But board Chairman Charlie Nipp said Jobs Plus’ basic mission of recruiting businesses to the area will continue.

“The board determined that the long-term strategic importance of Jobs Plus needs to continue,” Nipp said. “We reaffirmed that in the meeting.”

Jobs Plus has been recruiting businesses primarily from California since 1987. President Bob Potter landed his biggest company in 1992 with Harpers Inc., a furniture manufacturer now located in Post Falls.

Nipp said Jobs Plus will expand its efforts, and:

Actively recruit companies to move corporate headquarters here.

Actively recruit companies that have middle-level management positions, which usually pay better than most jobs now found in Kootenai County and have excellent benefits.

Actively recruit more businesses that have little or no environmental impact.

“These are companies that have good career paths and opportunities for our workers,” Nipp said.

Jobs Plus won’t receive any additional money to apply toward its new mission, Nipp said. The budget will remain at $210,000.
