Mom Killed Saving Her Daughter

Associated Press

A mother was killed when she dashed in front of an oncoming truck after her 6-year-old autistic daughter ran into the street, police said.

Rosa Babakhamov, 33, dashed to the middle of a Queens street Monday, placing herself between the girl and the truck, Detective Mark Patterson, a police spokesman, said.

“She died for her daughter,” said her husband, David Babakhamov.

The truck driver couldn’t stop in time and was not charged.

Rosa Babakhamov, an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, was pinned under the truck for 20 minutes before paramedics could free her.

She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The child, Diane, suffered abrasions on both legs, police said.
