College Vice President Says He’ll Stop Drowning Stray Cats On Campus

Associated Press

A vice president at Umpqua Community College says he’ll quit drowning stray cats and will use another method of controlling the number of cats on campus.

The cat population at Umpqua Community College exploded this summer, said John Blanchard, vice president of administration. Some visited the swimming pool to drink at night, leaving a big mess.

Blanchard said he caught three emaciated and sick cats and drowned them behind the college warehouse.

After some college employees complained, Blanchard said strays will continue to be caught, but they would be taken to Douglas County Animal Control, where they can be adopted or euthanized.
