Spalding Yard Expansion Wins County’s Ok

A county official has approved Spalding Auto Parts’ plans to expand its operation by 11 acres.

Zoning adjustor Tom Mosher has agreed to allow Spalding to store wrecked cars on the parcel adjacent to the west end of a wrecking yard where domestic cars on now stored.

In a written decision issued earlier this month, Mosher said the expansion was consistent with current land uses in the area.

He also granted Spalding an exemption from the county’s fencing ordinance, which would have required the new storage yard to be surrounding by a sight-obscuring fence.

Mosher ruled that a buffer of trees between the wrecking yard and Interstate 90 provided sufficient screening.

County officials will review the decision in two years to determine if the approval should be made permanent.
