Obituaries

William Anderson Spokane

Service for William E. “Bill” Anderson, 75, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who died Monday, was born in Bayview, Idaho.

He moved to Spokane when he was 4. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a military police officer.

Following the war, he worked in Oregon, New Mexico, California and Newport, Wash., as a law enforcement officer. In Newport he served as chief deputy sheriff for Pend Oreille County. He retired in 1973 and had lived in Spokane for 18 years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Francis Anderson; one brother, Robert Anderson of Spokane; five sisters, Irene Delvechio, Velvagay Barranco and Joanne Phillips, all of Spokane, Lois Reeder of Sandpoint, and Marjorie Shaw of Newport.

Warren ‘Cy’ Perkins Spokane

Visitation for Warren R. “Cy” Perkins, 92, is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Kalispell, Mont., Mr. Perkins died Friday.

He worked as a postal clerk and had lived in Spokane for 58 years.

His first wife, Elizabeth Perkins, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Perkins; three daughters, Betty Camin of Mount Airy, N.C., Barbra Orrin of Medical Lake and Shirley Corder of Murray, Idaho; one brother, Ralph Perkins of Denver; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Inland Empire Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Peter Herrold Spokane

Memorial service for Peter Herrold, 55, will be at 7 p.m today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in Honolulu, Mr. Herrold died Wednesday.

He had lived in Medical Lake for more than 20 years and worked for Pitney Bowes.

Mr. Herrold was a Washington State University alumnus and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge 2.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; two daughters, Linda and Shelley Herrold, both of Spokane; two brothers, Frank Herrold of Olympia and Mike Herrold of California; one sister, Susanne Boren of Arizona; and two grandchildren.

Lucy Holmes Coeur d’Alene

Service for Lucy (Swaim) Holmes, 81, is set for 1 p.m. today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Private burial will follow.

Mrs. Holmes, who died Tuesday, was born in Thompson Falls, Mont., and moved to Kellogg when she was 5.

She married Sverra Holmes in Coeur d’Alene in 1936 and they lived in Hayden Lake and Coeur d’Alene. He died in 1994.

Survivors include four sisters, Wilma Peterson of Spokane, Helen Clark of Tacoma, and Thelma Wolfe and Louise Grossarth, both of Wenatchee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edwin Thompson Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Edwin A. Thompson, 68, will be at 10:30 a.m. todayat Bruning Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Tekoa (Wash.) Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who died Saturday at home, was born in Tekoa and graduated from high school there.

An Army veteran, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and also drove truck. In 1950 he married Pearl Kessinger in Tekoa.

He was transferred to LaCrosse, Wash., and the couple moved there. He retired in 1989 and they moved to Colfax a few years ago.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife; five sons, Carl and Gene Thompson, both of Colfax, Kenneth Thompson of San Diego, and Richard and Allen Thompson, both of LaCrosse; two daughters, Kathy Primicia of Walla Walla and Annette Hall of Kennewick; one sister, Betty Olson of Troy, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department.

Alma Hering Spokane

Service for Alma Nevida Hering, 82, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hering, who died Tuesday, was born in Provost, Alberta.

She had lived in Spokane for 60 years and was manager of the University Club.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Her husband, John, died in 1970.

She is survived by three sisters, Signe Russell of Spokane, and Lulella Halvorson and Elsie Jaffray, both of Rimbey, Alberta.

Irma Allen Idaho Falls

Vigil prayer service for Irma Taylor Allen will be held today at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Catholic Church, Spokane. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Wood Funeral Home, Idaho Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Allen, 78, died Sunday at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Paha, Wash.

She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and attended Kinman Business College.

She worked for The Spokesman-Review, the Navy at Seal Beach Ammunition Depot, the Los Alamitos Air Station, the Naval Reserve, a veterans hospital and the Farmers Home Administration. She retired in 1983.

Mrs. Allen married George Allen Jr. in 1950 in Spokane. He died in 1993 and she moved to Idaho Falls in 1994.

She was a member of the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. She enjoyed traveling and camping.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Jaynes of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif., Don Allen of Richland and Jeff Allen of Seattle; one daughter, Georgann Clay of Idaho Falls; one brother, Kenneth Taylor of Prosser, Wash.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mariann Alling Warden, Wash.

Graveside service for Mariann Margaret Alling, 75, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alling, who died Tuesday at home, was born in Nespelem, Wash.

She had worked for Carnation Co. and retired in 1986.

She married Joseph Alling in 1942 in Spokane. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Alling is survived by two sons, Michael and Louis Alling, both of Warden; two daughters, Mitzi Vandewege of Olympia and Margaret Moore of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Michael Park of Torrance, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lela Lindquist Spokane

Private cremation for Lela S. Lindquist, 77, is planned. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lindquist died Wednesday.

She was born in Bellingham and had lived in Spokane for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Lindquist was a homemaker.

Her husband, Lewellyn, died in 1985.

She is survived by one son, Chip Lindquist of Spokane; one daughter, Margaret Carter of Loon Lake, Wash.; one brother, one sister and numerous grandchildren.

DeWitt Nielson Chewelah, Wash.

Funeral service for DeWitt Merrill Nielson, 74, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park in Colville, Wash.

Mr. Nielson, who died Monday, was born in Freeport, Ill.

He moved to Payette, Idaho, with his family, when he was 16. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He met Betty Brain in Oxford, England, and they were married in 1947 in Ontario, Ore.

Mr. Nielson farmed and was a dairyman at Ontario and at Weiser, Idaho. He logged in Newport, Wash., from 1962 through 1981, when he retired.

He had lived in Arden, Kettle Falls and Chewelah, Wash., since 1981.

Mr. Nielson is survived by his wife; two daughters, Susie Zawadzki of Colville and Fern Christenson of Spokane; his mother, Mary Nielson of Middleton, Idaho; two sisters, Beverly Funk of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dorothy Folk of Mount Carroll, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled children.

Brooke Fisher-Knapp Deer Park

Funeral Mass for Brooke Allison Fisher-Knapp, 28, is planned for 2 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fisher-Knapp died Monday from a severe asthma attack.

She was a born in Spokane and was a longtime Deer Park resident.

She graduated from high school in Deer Park.

Mrs. Fisher-Knapp attended the University of Idaho and had planned to finish her degree in therapeutic recreation at Eastern Washington University this year.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church; Deer Park Chapter AW of PEO, a philanthropic educational organization; the Association of Students with Disabilities at EWU; the American Therapeutic Recreation Association; Alpha Chi sorority; and Deer Park’s Winterfest Committee.

Mrs. Fisher-Knapp was a volunteer at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Eastern State Hospital, Deaconess Rehabilitation Institute, Muscular Dystrophy summer camp and with Special Olympics.

She is survived by her husband, David Knapp; her parents, Kenneth and Nancy Fisher of Deer Park; a brother, Robert Fisher of Anchorage, Alaska; and her grandmother, Irene Schreve of Deer Park.
