Aristide Will Marry D.C.-Based Lawyer

Compiled From Wire Services

President Jean-Bertrand Aristide acknowledged on Friday that he plans to marry.

“I can’t say no to you,” Aristide said at a news conference when asked about widespread rumors that he may marry. “As far as the date is concerned, I don’t have one yet.”

Aristide’s fiancee, advisers said, is Mildred Trouillot, a Haitian-American lawyer from a prominent Haitian family.

Trouillot, who is 33 and wrote speeches for Aristide during his three years of exile, is based in Washington, where she represents the government’s interests.
