Senate Oks Bill To Restrict Fraud Suits

The Senate approved hotly disputed legislation Tuesday that would restrict class-action securities fraud lawsuits against corporations as Democratic opponents pressed President Clinton to veto it.

Opponents, led by state securities regulators and plaintiffs’ attorneys, say the bill goes too far and would deny small investors important powers to sue corporate wrongdoers.
