Agent Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Washington U.S. attorney’s office says insurance agent Mike Calozza, formerly licensed in Idaho, has been ordered to serve more than 10 years in prison and make restitution of $8.8 million to people he defrauded over a number of years.

Idaho officials said four victims in Idaho lost a combined $243,485. Their complaints were investigated by the Kootenai County sheriff’s office and the state. The Idaho Department of Insurance revoked Calozza’s non-resident insurance agent license one year ago.

The Washington attorney’s office said Calozza also was investigated by the states of Washington, Montana and Oregon.

The indictment charged that Calozza swindled 150 insurance clients by promising to put their money into a high yield investment plan but actually converting the money to his own use.
