Hillyard Memories Wanted For Project

Bruce Krasnow Staff Writer

A group of northeast Spokane residents are asking those with memories about Hillyard and aspects of the community to come together for an oral history project.

“A call for memories,” as the project is dubbed, is sponsored by groups looking for personal, family, business and institutional history. The memories will be used as part of a timeline which could be displayed at the new Hillyard Heritage Fire and Rail Museum.

Those who have lived in Hillyard or those with memories of the area are asked to come to a table talk session from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the south assembly room of the Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook.

Those sponsoring the project include the Greater Hillyard Business Association, Leadership Spokane and the Hillyard Fire and Rail Museum.

Persons in those groups will demonstrate methods for recording and preserving community history. Some of the themes discussed Tuesday will be agriculture, economics, education, government, religion, sports and transportation.
