Still No Clues In Carrier’s Murder

From Staff And Wire Reports

Sheriff’s deputies still have no witnesses or suspects in the shooting death of a Spokesman-Review newspaper carrier three weeks ago.

Gary Loesch, a 56-year-old father of two, died Nov. 13 after being shot in the head. He was about halfway through his newspaper delivery route in Post Falls.

“It’s a real whodunit,” said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Capt. Ben Wolfinger.

Detective Gerald Wiedenhoff said he has been assigned to the case full time, along with another detective who is spending about 75 percent of his time on the case.

The Spokesman-Review has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Loesch’s killer. The company also has opened a memorial fund in Loesch’s name.

The Loesch family plans to use donations to the memorial fund to add to the reward offer, said Fred Gabourie, their attorney. So far, $2,071 has been donated.

The family hopes that someone will come forward with information if the reward fund is large enough, he said.

“It’s a sad commentary on society, but money talks,” Gabourie said. “Gary’s family and friends want to find the killer or killers and they’re not going to let it go. They’ve got no chance for closure right now.”

Donations to the fund can be made at any West One Bank branch in Loesch’s name.
