Late Fouls Spell Doom For Lake City

The fourth-ranked A-1 Lake City High School boys basketball team led most of the game against defending state champion Centennial before the visiting Timberwolves fell 64-54 in a non-league game Friday night in Meridian.

The Timberwolves led until the final 3 minutes. That’s when the Patriots made 10 of 12 free throw to decide it.

Lake City (0-2 overall) was led by Jon Chatfield’s 22 points. The Timberwolves lost despite holding last year’s A-1 player of the year, Jon Harris, to 13 points.

Centennial (2-1) was led by Shane Smith with 19 points.

The Vikings fell on the road by committing 31 fouls and 27 turnovers in the non-league game at Eagle.

The fifth-ranked Mustangs were led by Clint Hordeman with 21 points. CdA sophomore post Luke O’Dowd led the Vikings with 11 points.

Lakeside held off a late 7-0 run by Wallace and came away with an upset win at home.

James Twoteeth and Dan Montague each scored 12 points to lead Lakeside (2-1). Matt Hegbloom paced the Miners (3-2) with 16 points.

The Wampus Cats traveled to St. Regis, Mont., for the Tiger Tail Tournament and lost to the host team in the first game.

Clark Fork kept the game close for three quarters, but was outscored 17-6 in the final period. Matt Lamburth led the Wampus Cats with 19 points. Mike Mullaley led St. Regis with 17.

St. Maries led for most of the game before scoring only two field goals in the fourth quarter and letting Newport come back at home for the victory.

Newport’s Nate Carrara made two free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the victory. Carrara led Newport with 24 points. St. Maries was led by Ty Konkright with 13 points.

Kootenai jumped out to a 10-2 lead but never led again as Deary poured it on to take a victory on the road.

Deary was led by Brian Fritz with 21 points. Kootenai, which shot only 30 percent from the field, was led by Joe Lamb with 14 points.

The host Greyhounds pulled away from the Bears in the fourth quarter behind 14-of-16 shooting from the free-throw line.

Moscow trailed 40-30 at halftime, but the Bears cut the deficit to seven going into the fourth quarter. Pullman beat Moscow at the foul line, making 29 of 39 attempts to the Bears’ 13 of 22.

Nick Mirkovich led Pullman (2-2 overall) with 19 points and teammate Tim Wang added 18.

Moscow (1-1) was led by Adam Miller’s 22 points, 15 of which came in the third quarter.
