Letter To The Editor

Generosity of students heartening

I had just finished reading in the morning paper that the only excuse a parent was giving for her school dropout son being involved in the prank of planting a fake bomb in front of the U.S. Court House is that he was bored.

Being old enough to be a parent, grandparent and great-grandparent, I couldn’t understand what has happened to parents and children in this generation.

I was just about ready to explode when I turned to page 6 in the Valley Voice (Nov. 30) and saw the headline “West Valley students collect baby food items.”

It stated how 200 West Valley High School students stood outside on Saturday and Sunday in front of grocery stores to collect 26,000 items of baby food to be given to Spokane’s various charities.

My eyes watered with tears and I choked up as I looked up to the heaven and thanked our Lord for these great young ladies and gentlemen who are trying so hard to be good citizens. Elmer E. Dempsey Spokane , DataTimes
