West regional champion Isaac Hawkins of Ferris High School finished 12th Saturday at the 17th annual Foot Locker national cross country championships at Balboa Park.
Hawkins, a junior, completed the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 33.6 seconds. Hawkins ran a national-best 15:06 last week at Fresno, Calif., in winning his regional.
Senior Abdul Alzindani of Dearborn, Mich., won the boys race in 15:12.4. South regional champion Sharif Karie, a junior from Burke, Va., finished second in 15:24.6 after tripping with 40 meters remaining.
Three runners from the West finished ahead of Hawkins, including third-place Jeffery Hopkinson (15:26.1) of South Jordan, Utah, who finished second at region.
