Frenchman Wins On Home Slope

At the Val D’isere resort, Luc Alphand became the first French skier in 27 years to win a World Cup downhill.

The French skier was timed in 2 minutes, 20.71 seconds for two runs. American Tommy Moe, the 1994 Olympic champion, failed to qualify for the second run after a 1:11.66 for 52nd in the morning. He is recovering from a knee injury suffered last March.

The top American was Kyle Rasmussen. He was 19th in 2:21.91.
