Once Again, Chiefs Skate To 2-2 Tie

The Spokane Chiefs came back from a 2-1 deficit on Dimitri Leonov’s goal with 7:50 left in regulation and earned a 2-2 tie against the Seattle Thunderbirds in Seattle Sunday night. It was the second straight night the Chiefs had to settle for a 2-2 tie.

Saturday night, the Chiefs played to a tie with Kelowna.

The Chiefs struck first Sunday as John Cirjak scored his 15th goal of the season on a power play at the 17:34-mark of the first period. Cirjak took a rebound from a Randy Favaro shot and put it to the left side of goalie Doug Bonner.

The Thunderbirds struck back with two goals in the second period. The first came after Cirjak went off for holding at 7:04. Six seconds later, Shane Belter beat Chiefs goalie Aren Miller with a slapshot from the left the point.

The second goal came when Seattle’s Shawn Gervais knocked Spokane’s Joel Boschman on top of Miller in the Chiefs goal during a scramble in the slot. The puck layed in the crease before Jeremy Reich knocked it in at 15:10.

Spokane had a chance to tie it in overtime, but John Shockey’s shot from the right circle hit the cross-bar.
