Starks, Subs Lift Knicks Over Spurs

Associated Press

NBA

Playing most of a second overtime without three of their starters, the New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 118-112 on John Starks’ driving layup with 24.6 seconds remaining Sunday night in New York.

Starks scored eight of his 25 points in the second overtime.

With Patrick Ewing, Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley on the bench, the Knicks took a 112-107 lead with 2:40 left on Gary Grant’s three-point play. Robinson scored four straight points, but turnovers by Avery Johnson and Sean Elliott cost the Spurs a chance to win.
