Eagles Remain Winless

Reserve Colin Bryant’s shooting spree rallied Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to a 82-66 men’s basketball victory over winless Eastern Washington University Monday night in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Bryant connected for 11 points, nine of them on a trio of 3-point goals, as the Mustangs, trailing 59-57 with 7:10 to play, went on a 16-4 run in the span of 3 minutes.

Bryant, who came off the bench to score 22 points, and guard Shanta Cotright, did most of the damage as Cal Poly (3-3) earned its first victory over an NCAA Division I team since moving to Division I.

Eastern Washington, which led 33-31 at halftime, dropped to 0-7. The Eagles contributed to their own downfall by committing 24 turnovers.

Guard D’mitri Rideout tallied more than one-third of Eastern’s points, putting in a career-high 23.

EWU sank 14 of 27 first-half shots and led by as many as four points early in the second half. Then Cal Poly came to life. The Mustangs, who shot a frigid 39.3 percent in the first half, made 20 of their 37 tries in the final 20 minutes.

Bryant shot 9 for 19. Cotright, who scored the other five points in the winning run, finished with 27 points.

Eastern which routed Cal Poly 92-40 last season, dominated the backboards, pulling down 43 rebounds, nine of them by Adam Dean, who had 13 points.

The Eagles did not make a basket after Rideout hit with 6:10 to go.
