Fred Schedler Sandpoint

Memorial service for Fred R. Schedler, 88, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schedler, who was born and raised in Sandpoint, died Saturday.

He graduated from Sandpoint schools and went on to attend the University of Idaho and the University of Washington, majoring in business administration and financial management.

He married Iris Williams in 1934 and they built and operated a hotel on the east bank of Sandpoint for many years. He served with the Army during World War II.

Mr. Schedler was associated with the timber and electrical industries throughout the western half of the United States for over 45 years. He was an officer and director of the L.D. McFarland Co., and a founding partner of the Idaho Pole Co. He was also associated with the McFarland-Brown Lumber Co. He retired in 1973.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. He was a member of the North Idaho Forestry Association, American Wood Preservers Association, Kaniksu Forest Council and the Priest Lake Timber Protective Association.

He was also involved with the Masonic and Elks Lodges, several country clubs and the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife Iris; son, Douglas Schedler of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Donnella Merriman of Portland and Judith Rawlings of Nampa, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Merle Schram of California, and Helen Lloyd of Arizona; three granddaughters and five grandsons.

Manford ‘Mike’ Horsman Spokane

A gathering for Manford R. “Mike” Horsman, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Gretna Green. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horsman, 81, died Friday.

He was born in Minnesota and had lived in North Idaho and Spokane for 20 years.

He was a logger for 45 years in Minnesota, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. He worked for Crowd Management Services until the recent closure of the Spokane Coliseum.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Gary and Ronald Horsman, both of Spokane; one daughter, Marge Snyder of Pendleton, Ore.; one stepson, Flash Gibson, Spokane; one stepdaughter, Cassandra Bohn, of Spokane; three brothers, Hugh, Max and Lyle Horsman, all of Minnesota; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Myers Coeur d’Alene

Service for Dorothy S. Myers, 75, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Bible Church. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Myers, who was born in Baltimore, Md., died Thursday.

She grew up and attended schools in Africa where her parents served as missionaries.

She married Samuel Myers in 1948 in Kentucky. They lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Colorado before settling in Riverside, Calif. She worked as a nurses aid at Riverside Community Hospital and also ran a home day care center.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1990. Mrs. Myers enjoyed the outdoors and traveling and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Bible Church.

Survivors include her husband; son, James Burke of California; and two grandchildren.

Mabel Thurlow Spokane

Service for Mabel Ruth Thurlow, 79, was held Monday in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thurlow, a lifetime Sandpoint resident, died Friday.

She was born and raised in Sandpoint, graduating from high school there. She married Dave Thurlow in 1938.

She had worked at Buck’s Boutique and Merwin’s Hardware in Sandpoint, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Thurlow enjoyed gardening and handiwork. She had lived with a friend since 1993.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Carrithers of Edmonds, Wash., Kathy Peterson of Sandpoint and Janis Cox of Bothell, Wash.; two brothers, John Rheinschmidt of Coeur d’Alene and Bob Rheinschmidt of Missoula; four sisters, Bernie Gordon of Sandpoint, Jerry Ley of Cheyenne, Wyo., Eileen Thom of Coeur d’Alene, and Corky Beck of Spokane; nine grandchildren; and one niece.

Patricia Redmond Coeur d’Alene

Private family service for Patricia Ruth Redmond, 69, will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Redmond, a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident, died Thursday.

She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and married William Redmond in 1948. She worked with her husband for many years in the family business managing the bakery at Redmond’s Thrift Store in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Redmond loved the outdoor lifestyle and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and camping.

Lorene (Olsen) Rusho Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Lorene Rae “Lori” (Olsen) Rusho, 46, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Priest River Church of Christ. Private inurnment will be held. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home, Newport, Wash., in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rusho, who died Thursday, was born in Spokane.

She graduated from Ferris High School in 1968 and from Green River Community College.

She had worked for Two Swabbies in Spokane, and at the Ben Franklin in Oldtown, Idaho.

Mrs. Rusho is survived by her husband Phillip; one son, Ryan Moon, at home; one daughter, Tonya Moon of Reno, Nev.; her parents, Raymond and Winnifred Olsen of Spokane; and one brother, Gregg Olsen of Spokane.

Elmer Johnson Kootenai, Idaho

Graveside service for Elmer Moore Johnson, 98, will be today at 1 p.m. at the Westmond Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Jefferson, Ohio, died Thursday.

He sold insurance in New York state and served with the Navy during World War II. He also worked as a machinist for the Art Metal Co. in New York.

He later moved to California where he worked as a law enforcement guard. He retired in 1961 and moved to Sandpoint.

Survivors include three children, Bruce and Ralph Johnson, and Lois Spacht, all of New York; and 25 grandchildren.

James Pence Sandpoint

Private family service for James K. Pence, 72, will be held at a later date. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pence, who was born in Bozeman, Mont., died Dec. 5.

He was raised and educated Bozeman, later serving with the Army Air Corps. in Europe as a night fighter pilot during World War II.

He received a bachelor of arts degree from Babson College in Boston. He worked for Spokane Seed Co.

Mr. Pence married Dee Lake in 1956.

He moved to Southern California and was involved with real estate developments. He returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1971 and brokered real estate for James S. Black Co. In 1977 he established James K. Pence and Associates real estate office in Sandpoint.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include three sons, Richard of Bozeman, Randall of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Malcolm of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Celia Dierks Coeur d’Alene

Service for Celia M. Dierks, 95, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Open Bible section of Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Dierks, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Saturday.

She was raised in Montana and moved to Rose Lake in 1910. She married William Dierks in 1919.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1943.

Mrs. Dierks enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Darylene Vedder of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Floyd and Howard Thaxter, both of Coeur d’Alene; four sisters, Grace Olson of Denver, Lois Beare of Spirit Lake, and Ruby Sharpley and Helen Knittel, both of Bingen, Wash.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
